I am Woodrow Benjamin Grant, Jr. The oldest of three sons to my parents, Woodrow and Mary Francis Grant. I was born in Martinsville, Henry County,Virginia. I attended Albert Harris from grade 1 to 12. Then I entered Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, I received a Bachelor of Science Degree, a Master of Education Degree from Texas Southern University in Houston, an Equivalent from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN., I also received a Master's in African History from the University of Liberia in Monrovia, Liberia in West Africa, a PhD. in Biblical studies from Omega University. I was Branch Chief of Equity, Assurance, and Compliance of the Division of Instruction and Staff Development.
I possessed a diversity of experience in administering and management, research design, community action, development, and effective classroom instruction I was President of the Harford County Branch of the NAACP also President of the Nashville Branch of the NAACP. I was involved in Civil Rights. I served in the United States Army and the United States Peace Corps for five years in Liberia in West Africa with my wife and son Ben. Later, Grace joined our family. I taught school, had an academic Television program, our students were tops for all three years. I also helped to build Camp Bethesda and learned how to make bricks for the buildings. I organized the first NAACP Youth Council in the Harford County Branch of the NAACP. While NAACP president in Nashville along with my wife Janice and friend Daniel Lane, we forced the TV station to hire a person of color in order to get their license renewed and it was Miss Oprah Winfrey.
In Civil Rights, I was one of 200 students to force desegregation of the City of Richmond. I was arrested with 32 other students and we were called the "Richmond 34." There are several films are on the internet with me telling my story. I with my wife and a group of youth forced total desegregation in Harford County of all Public Accommodations, housing, and all segregated places. With my wife and Anna Brashears and Geraldine Washington we filed 4 suits in Federal Court with Mrs. Juanita Jackson Mitchell. The result was total desegregation of all Harford County Public Schools, students, teachers and all personnel.
I was blessed to be a member of Victory Christian Fellowship in New Castle, Delaware with the Rev. Dr. Gary V. Whetstone and Pastor Janice Faye Whetstone. I also sang in the Victory choir with my wife. I was blessed to visit 19 nations in Africa, all 50 states in the USA, Europe and Asia on mission trips. God is such a great God. I have been blessed.
I was an Elder at Helping Hands Ministry, worker in the school Academy as Administrator under the Rev. Dr. Rodger L. Tatuem. I have a brother, Dennis Grant (Rosa), a son, Woodrow (Ben) Grant, 3'd. daughter, Grace (Benjamin) Wright. Both children are also ordained ministers, having graduated from Bible School.
I was pre deceased in death by my brother Ronald Ellison Grant, Father Woodrow Grant, Mother, Mary Frances Smith Grant Matthews. An Uncle and Aunt, Odell and Lorraine, cousins, nephews, nieces and many, many great friends. My desire is that all of you ask Lord Jesus the Christ in to your heart. Ask Him to save you so you can be home with me and hear "Welcome Home" from our Lord and be in that great cloud of witnesses.
