Tammy Monique Fortunat was born in Queens NY to Seth and Jeanette Brown on 11/19/1970. She was
extremely fond of her older sister Tanya Brown. Tammy was blessed with a community of family and close
friends enjoying block parties, bike riding, swimming lessons and roller skating. She spent the summer in
Delaware where she would go crabbing, to the state fair, played hide and seek in the cornfields among other
"country experiences". Her most enjoyable childhood activity was dancing school, which she performed
annual concerts in jazz, modern, ballet, tap and African dance.
Tammy was educated in the Queens, NY school system where she was quite popular among friends. Her
infectious laugh, positive spirit and friendly demeanor made everyone around her feel happy and relaxed.
Tammy graduated from College at Old Westbury, State University Of New York, where she received a
Bachelor of Science in early education. Tammy also attended Long Island University, School of Education,
where she received a degree of Master of Science. Soon after, Tammy embarked upon her career as an
elementary school teacher. She impacted the lives of her students and their families. Tammy took the time
to assure that her students had the best academic instruction and positive social interactions. Tammy was
dedicated to teaching the next generation of professionals. She proudly served over 19 years as a
Elementary School Teacher.
In 1992 she met the love of her life, Louis Fortunat. They dated and married on August 8,1998 in Queens,
New York. Soon after, they relocated to Maryland and welcomed their beloved princess Maiya in 2006.
Tammy was overjoyed by motherhood and poured everything possible into loving and raising their beautiful
daughter. Tammy shared many priceless memories with her family including, reading, long walks, trips to
Florida, dancing, bike riding and spending time with her family. Also learned how to cook Haitian food and
was a great cook.
Tammy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist
Church in Bel Air, MD. Tammy was a faithful servant of God.
