Nicholas Charles Carmichael was born on October 25, 1944, to the late Ollie Carmichael (father) and Jeffie Mae Nichols Kidd (mother) in Charleston, Mississippi. He departed this life on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at his home in Aberdeen, Maryland.

Nicholas attended the Joseph Medill Elementary School and continued his education at the Crane Technical High School in Chicago, IL in 1960. He was united in holy matrimony to Dolola Mitchell on October 19, 1963. From this union two children were born, Christine and Koren. On January 30, 1965, Nicholas joined the United States Army. During his military service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and a Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle M14). His tour of duty included Japan and the Philippines. His final duty station was Aberdeen Proving Grounds, where he was honorably discharged as a Master Chef on March 1, 1968. He then attended Harford Community College from 1972-1974, where he completed several courses, and received an Auto Mechanic Certificate.

Shortly after his military career ended, Nick began his music career. He traveled extensively across the United States of America as a band manager and lead singer of several bands of which he initiated. Nick’s band, “Sudden Storm”, was a featured group for several years at the Annual Fourth of July Celebration in Havre De Grace, MD. After traveling extensively, Nick settled down at home and later began to attend Gospel Tabernacle Church in 1987, with his family. Shortly after, he began his final group, “The Carmichael Family Singers”. The group consisted of his wife, daughters, and spiritual son, Gregory Gibson, Jr. He and his family traveled throughout the Delmarva area and became well known for their anointed spirit filled music ministry. Nick was baptized in Jesus Name, and later filled with the Holy Ghost on January 1, 1991, following a New Year’s Eve service. On March 13, 1995, the Lord blessed Deacon Carmichael to undergo a successful quadruple heart bypass surgery. In 1996, his kidneys began to fail, and in 1997, he began peritoneal dialysis for 6 months. On November 19, 1997, the Lord blessed his wife to be a donor for a kidney transplant. Dolola was able to donate a kidney and from that time on Deacon Carmichael would often testify that he had married his kidney.

In 1996, he was employed by the Baltimore County Vehicle Operations and Maintenance Division of the Office of Budget and Finance, as an Automotive Mechanic from which he retired after approximately 20 years of service, in December 2011. Nick was a very intelligent, hardworking, and fun-loving person, with a great sense of humor. His favorite hobbies were refurbishing old cars, playing chess, pool, horseshoes, and bowling. Nick had a green thumb, took pride in his yard work, and the upkeep of his home. He loved watching movies and sports on TV, and was famous for asking trivia questions, when he already knew the answers, simply to make you think.

Nick leaves to cherish his memory; a loving and devoted wife, Dolola Carmichael, two daughters, Christine Carmichael Foster (Wayne) Dover, DE; Koren Carmichael Turner (L. LaMont) Abingdon, MD; 7 granddaughters, Ariel Green (Rahshaun), Newark, NJ; Shanelle Robertson, Lincoln, DE; Lauriel Scott-York (Dante), Kansas, MO; Shaquan Foster, Youngstown, OH; Harmony Welsh, Abingdon, MD; Jasmine Foster and Dejah Foster, Dover, DE; 4 grandsons, Tyquan Barnes, Wayne Foster, Jr., and Andrew Robertson Dover, DE; and Lael L. Turner Abingdon, MD; 8 great grandchildren, Nadia (9), Ryan (6), Chelsie (4), Alex (2), Amir (2), Destin (2), Shykur (2), and Zendaya (6 months); 6 brothers, Joe McKinley (Linda), Freddie Carmichael, William Carmichael (Dee), Lasalle Carmichael (Renarda), Jimmy Carmichael, and Ranzy Carmichael; 4 sisters, Emma Turner (Charles), Bobbie Scurlock (Wayne), Mary Carmichael, Pamela Tenner (Darnell), sister-in-law Lottie Carmichael, and host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Janie Harrel (maternal), and Lula Carmichael (paternal), grandfather, Jim Carmichael (paternal), his parents Ollie Carmichael and Jeffie Mae Nichols Kidd, his uncle Prince Albert Nichols, his aunt Ruthel Willis; his uncle Jimmy Willis, his brother Charlie Carmichael, Sr.; special cousin Annie Ruth Stephens, and a nephew, Cedric Mallett, and a host of family and friends.
