Lula Mae Barkley Holloway was born on November 13, 1935, the youngest child of the late Walter and Osie Love in Birmingham, Alabama. She departed this life peacefully at home beside her loving husband on January 8, 2020. In 1969 she met SGT Charles Holloway and they have been inseparable ever since.
Lula graduated from Ullman High School in Birmingham, Alabama and attended Alabama State with dreams of becoming a teacher.
Lula was a longstanding and active member of St. James A.M.E. Church. She served many roles over 50 plus years in schools, churches and community organizations.
Lula loved to guide and mentor children and young adults. She was a "frankly speaking woman" and loyal friend.
Lula leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Charles Holloway with whom she spent over 52 years, 2 sons, Norman Barkley of Essex, Maryland and Alvin Holloway (Maria) of Huntsville , Alabama, 2 daughters, Tammy Holloway Walton of Lawton, Oklahoma and Terrie Dashiell (Eddie) of Randallstown, Maryland, 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 5 Godchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and a multitude of family and friends.
Lula was preceded in death by her beloved son Patrick Barkley and several loved ones.
